In Memory

So it's no secret that I love graphic tees. I've made a couple out of old shirts before, I made one with a bleach pen, and I've sewn my own pattern mixed version as well. And all of them are on regular rotation in my wardrobe. A fun tee is the perfect thing to throw on with a skirt or jeans and look like I "tried."

P.S. This skirt is also made by me, using this tutorial

While browsing through one of my fashion magazines last week, I came across this tank from Feather Hearts (sold out, was $40):

I immediately cracked up at the irony. And then I realized I LOVED IT. This is exactly how I've been feeling about a lot of things lately...then I ran to the store to find the materials to make my own! Because this project could not be easier.

At first I thought I was going to do a freezer paper stencil, but after trying to stencil words on a shirt for my son and having mixed results, I decided to go an even easier route:

1. I bought iron-on letters from Joann Fabric and Crafts, and a basic tee from Wal Mart for $4. I was serious, this could not be easier!
2. Cut out the letters and lay them out on your shirt, make sure you have them exactly where you want them.
3. Iron on the letters according to the directions.
4. I cut off the sleeves, because I wanted it to be a muscle shirt like the original. (And as I've told you all before, I really am not a big fan of sleeves) But you don't need to do this part if you like the sleeves on your shirt.

You're done! Put it on and rock your irony.

The letters were much crisp-er and cleaner looking then the stenciled ones on my son's graphic tee, so I'm pretty happy about that. I actually loved this enough that I wore it all day after taking these pictures, so my friends got a little preview of this post, lol.

I have yet to see how this shirt holds up to washing, however. These iron on letters are prone to peeling off is ran through the dryer too many times, so we'll see how they do! I'll be sure to let you guys know. And if you're looking for more easy projects, you can check those out on our DIY page!

  1. Well done ! I habe to try it one day :) X
