Anthropologie Bee Keeper top knock off

While browsing Anthropologie for the 1,000th time this summer, I (Jessica) came across this top which I loved. It's called the "Beekeeper Blouse" (for some reason...Anthro's naming process for their clothes escapes me sometimes) and it was, of course, already unavailable online.

That's ok, it was probably $600 anyways. Instead, I decided to sew my own DIY version! Here's a close up of my "Bee Keeper Top:"

I used some botanical printed cotton from my stash, and I repurposed this striped sequined mesh from an old shirt into the sequined bib from the original. I actually liked my striped sequins better then the Anthro version, because it's a way to add a subtle dose of the pattern mixing that I love so much:

I loved the high-low hem from the Anthropologie version too, so I incorporated a pretty dramatic high-low into mine as well. Because of this, it really ended up being more of a tunic then a simple tank. It's pretty long! My rear is completely covered with fabric. Which, you know, is kind of nice sometimes:

To make this top, I used my trusty pattern from my basic tank tutorial with some very easy modifications:

All I did differently from my original pattern and post was add the dramatic high-low hem. I also sewed the sequined mesh onto the front before I hemmed the whole shirt, so that the top has a nice clean edge. Everything else I did exactly the same way and the first time! Here's a picture of what it looked like as the basic pattern pieces pinned together:

I absolutely love the way it turned out!

What do you think of my interpretation of this Anthropologie top? Did I capture the feel of the original?

  1. I definitely feel like you captured the original and yet this is still uniquely your own, which is the best thing about DIYing versions of clothes you see in stores. I am definitely feeling inspired to make one of these for myself. I just wish it wasn't so cold where I live. :(

  2. I love it! I pinned it too:) very cute top!! I prefer my tops long- this is fab!

  3. You guys have the best knock off diys in all of blogville. Link up with me this Friday for more exposure. yes? ok. ♥

  4. This.Is.Fabulous! Completely captures the original, and it's so do-able! I'm with you on the sequins too. I'm having a momentary love affair with sequins. I expect it to be more of a fling than a long-term thing, but it's so much fun!

  5. I think it's great! I love your fabric combo and colors much more than the original!!
    And it seems really do-able..
PS: here for friday they announce snow... seeing you on tank makes me feel like I want to be there!!!
