Pinterest Friday! Peanut Butter Edition

Welcome to Pinterest Friday! We have decided that every Friday we're going to post one Pin from Pinterest that we've been wanting to try. We'll do it, we'll test it out, and then we'll tell you all how it worked and if we made any changes. That way when you go try it yourself, you'll know what works and what doesn't!

Homemade Peanut Butter

The original Pin is one I've seen all over Pinterest for DIY peanut butter from Averie Cooks:

The woman in the blog mentioned claims that her tutorial using just peanuts and a food processor, can be used to create delicious, creamy peanut butter. I thought..."Hey! I'm a self proclaimed hippy! I love making things myself! Why not give it a try?" And with the price of peanut butter these days, it could be seriously cost effective! ( And yes, when I think to myself in my own head I actually do use that many exclamation points. I'm peppy like that.)

1 lb of peanuts (I found mine in the bulk section of Winco) The original Pin called for honey roasted.
1 food processor

Step 1: Pour peanuts into food processor.

Step 2. Puree peanuts until smooth.

Here are the results:

Hooray! It's real peanut butter! I was shocked, because for a bit I didn't think it was all going to come together, but it became beautifully creamy and smooth.

Of course I had to make myself some toast to test it out on! I couldn't leave anyone wondering how well it spreads, now could I? I'm so selfless when it comes to our blog.

MMMmmmMMMMmmmm.....Let me tell you, it spread just fine. And it was delicious! This piece of toast lasted only for about as long as it took to get this photo. What you can't see is me drooling as I was taking this picture. I could show you that, but no one wants to see me in my jammies this morning, trust me!

So here is what I did differently from the original pin:

1. I used dry roasted peanuts to preserve nutritional value, thinking that the added sugar and honey in honey roasted peanuts wouldn't be as healthy. This step seemed smart at first but then I realized why she had used honey roasted peanuts. They taste sweeter! This is a very "peanutty" peanut butter, and it definitely needed some added sweetness. We love a good freshly ground peanut butter in our house, but this was too much.

2. I added coconut oil for sweetness and extra creaminess. I would say I probably added 2 Tbsp of coconut oil and it made the peanut butter smoother and creamier, and added a fantastic sweet note of coconut. Tropical peanut butter anyone?

That's it! I couldn't believe how well this worked, and we will be absolutely doing it again. I'm not sure if I'm ever going to be able to eat peanut butter without coconut oil ever again to be honest. It was that good!

...I'm going to make myself another twelve pieces of toast now.

  1. Thus, few people are choosing to take off their $10,000 Rolex in favor of a smartwatch, but people with a $100 cheap replica watches might. It takes a lot of passion, education, and culture (not to mention disposable income) to include luxury timepieces in your lifestyle. Just as the journey to discover your favorite luxury replica watches sale watches takes time, so does the opposite situation of deciding you no longer want hublot replica them. People who start to wear luxury replica watches tend to stay wearers for a very long time. And if they take off a omega replica watch, it isn't just to replace it with something lower-end. Only the opposite is normally true. With that said, there is the matter of volume to discuss.
